Integrated Munhaeng Daedong Festival Held…

SKKU Members from Both Campuses Come Together as One

SKKU held the 2026 Integrated Munhaeng Daedong Festival for two days from Thursday, May 14 to Friday, May 15, across the Humanities and Social Sciences Campus.

This Munhaeng Daedong Festival was hosted and organized by the 58th Student Council, S’PEAK, with support from the Student Affairs Division, and was designed to promote student culture and enhance bonds and pride among members of the university. In particular, this year’s event was operated as an integrated festival in which students from both campuses participated together, serving as a venue where students came together as one SKKU community beyond the physical distance between campuses.

During the event, various student-participatory programs were held throughout the campus, including daytime cultural booths, promotional booths, food trucks, festival goods sales, and laser tag games. Around Geumjandi Square, daytime booths and nighttime pubs were operated, creating a space for self-governing culture planned and run directly by students.

At the main stage, club performances, performances by the Kingo Cheerleading, and artist performances continued, heightening the festive atmosphere. On May 14, Mu-jin Lee, Davichi, fromis_9, and others took the stage, while on May 15, performances by QWER, Roy Kim, Yerin Baek, Jannabi, and others received an enthusiastic response from students. In addition, on the evening of May 15, President Ji Beom Yoo appeared on the main stage and spent time communicating directly with students and sharing the meaning of Munhaeng Daedong Festival.

As the event involved a large number of participants, the university made every effort to ensure safe and orderly festival operations. Access to fall-risk areas around the venue and building rooftops was restricted, and safety staff and working-level teams were stationed along major routes to support audience movement and maintain order. In addition, the university strengthened its safety management system by establishing a prior cooperation system with relevant organizations, including Seoul Hyehwa Police Station and Jongno Fire Station, and by completing disaster response plan reporting and on-site inspections for outdoor performances. An emergency response system was also prepared, including keeping an ambulance on standby at the event site and extending the operating hours of the Healthcare Center.

A barrier-free zone was also installed and operated for students with disabilities and people with reduced mobility. This enabled various members of the university to watch the performances more safely and comfortably, creating a festival environment that all students could enjoy together.

Support for mobility convenience was also strengthened in line with the integrated operation of both campuses. Additional shuttle buses were arranged between the Humanities and Social Sciences Campus and the Natural Sciences Campus to support participation by students from the Natural Sciences Campus and their safe return home. In particular, anticipating concentrated demand for travel from the Humanities and Social Sciences Campus to the Natural Sciences Campus at the end of the event, the university increased nighttime shuttle bus operations to enhance students’ convenience in returning home.

Through this Munhaeng Daedong Festival, the 58th Student Council, S’PEAK, emphasized the meaning of a festival created directly by students and completed together. The Student Council demonstrated its capacity for student self-governance by planning and operating the overall event, from daytime programs and nighttime performances to entry and exit routes, booth operations, and audience safety management.

SKKU plans to continue creating a campus culture in which students can participate safely and independently while respecting and supporting student self-governance activities.

Student Council Presidents Jae-hong Lee (Political Science and Diplomacy, Class of 2022) and Sang-su Lee (Architecture, Class of 2020) said, “We hope Munhaeng Daedong Festival became more than just a festival, but a time when all Sungkyun-ins were connected under the same name,” adding, “We will continue to create a safer and more enjoyable culture of student self-governance based on the voices of our fellow students.”
