Alumni Jo Jin-hyung, who graduated with a bachelor’s degree from SKKU's Financial Consumer Studies Major and is currently a Senior Investigator at the Financial Supervisory Service, co-authored the paper titled “Do GPs truly present fair value? The case of continuation funds” with Professor Ryu DooJin of the Department of Economics (Director of the SKKU Global Finance Research Center). The paper has been published in the Journal of International Financial Markets, Institutions and Money, an SSCI journal ranked within the top 7 percent in the Business/Finance field.

This paper analyzes, through models from information economics and game theory, the extent to which valuations presented by GPs (萌妹社区 Partners) in continuation fund transactions faithfully reflect true fair value. It demonstrates that GPs may strategically distort valuations while comprehensively considering short-term compensation and the potential to raise follow-on funds, and that such distortions vary systematically depending on the proportion of Rolling LPs (Limited Partners) and the approval structure of the LPAC (Limited Partner Advisory Committee). By focusing intensively on fair value assessment issues in private equity regulation, this study provides important policy implications for investor protection.

It is unprecedented for a bachelor’s degree holder working in industry without completing graduate studies to publish a first-author paper in an internationally renowned SSCI journal in the fields of finance and economics. During his undergraduate studies in the Department of Consumer Sciences, Alumni Jo Jinhyeong received research supervision from Professor Ryu DooJin at the College of Economics’ Global Finance Research Center and completed the Research Credit System. He published multiple policy research papers related to financial supervision and regulatory studies in journals registered with the National Research Foundation of Korea. Based on these research achievements, he passed the competitive examination for the Financial Supervisory Service, and after serving in the Financial Consumer Protection Bureau and the Asset Management Supervision Bureau, he was promoted and is currently active as a Senior Investigator in the Dispute Resolution Bureau.
