From October 9 (Thu) to 12 (Sun), a Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) delegation visited Hanoi, Vietnam, to discuss strategies for strengthening educational and research collaboration with major local universities and institutions. The delegation included President Yoo Ji-beom, Dean of Business School Lee Jong-eun, Dean of Academic Affairs Bae Sang-hoon, Vice President of International Affairs Cho Min-hyo, Director of the Academy of East Asian Studies Kim Kyung-ho, Professor Kim Kyung-hwon (University College), Professor Kim Jang-hyun (Interaction Science), and Professor Lee Jae-joon (Game Design).

The delegation’s first visit was to Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU), where they met with the university’s leadership to explore opportunities for academic exchanges and joint research. Notably, Na Ki-hong, Executive Vice President of Samsung Vietnam’s Strategic Cooperation Office, also attended the meeting to discuss a potential tripartite cooperation model among SKKU, VNU, and Samsung—laying the foundation for broader industry-academia-research collaboration.

This meeting followed VNU’s visit to SKKU last August and was especially meaningful as it established a framework for practical cooperation in cutting-edge fields such as semiconductors and artificial intelligence (AI). VNU is recognized, along with Ho Chi Minh City National University, as one of Vietnam’s two premier national universities and is considered one of the country’s most prestigious institutions.

The delegation also visited Thuongmai University to discuss expanding student exchange programs, including the possibility of joint academic initiatives. During the same period, five SKKU undergraduate students presented their research papers at the SR-ICYREB International Conference (Scientific Research – International Conference for Young Researchers in Economics and Business) hosted by Thuongmai University. Notably, student Lee Young-han received the Best Paper Award, showcasing SKKU students’ strong research capabilities and competitiveness on the international stage.

On October 11 (Sat), SKKU also held an Alumni and IMBA Networking Event in Hanoi, attended by 22 local alumni. Participants shared updates on SKKU’s recent developments and international collaborations, reaffirming their pride and sense of belonging as members of the Sungkyun community.

This visit not only strengthened SKKU’s global presence but also laid the groundwork for deeper strategic partnerships with leading universities and institutions in Vietnam, fostering mutual growth and innovation in the years to come.
