SKKU Volleyball Team Holds Friendly Exchange and Training Camp with Fukuoka University

The Volleyball Team of the Athletics Team (Director: Professor Kyung-Ro Jang) hosted the Volleyball Team of Fukuoka University in Japan and held a friendly exchange tournament and training camp for six days from February 23 (Mon) to February 28 (Sat).

The Fukuoka University Volleyball Team is a traditional team that was established alongside the founding of the university and has consistently achieved strong results in Japanese collegiate volleyball. Over the past four years, the team has advanced to the Round of 16 in the All Japan Intercollegiate Volleyball Championship three times, demonstrating stable competitiveness, and it also has experience winning the Japanese collegiate championship in the past. In addition, the program has produced approximately 310 alumni, establishing itself as a cradle for developing volleyball coaches in Japan, with many graduates currently serving as middle and high school teachers and volleyball coaches.

Regarding the exchange matches, the head coach of Fukuoka University evaluated SKKU’s Volleyball Team by stating, “Their height and power are impressive, and their ball control is better than expected. We had the perception that Korean university teams rely heavily on strong outside attacks, but after actually playing against them, their blocking coverage and teamwork in rebound situations were outstanding.”

In response, Head Coach Dong-Yeon Shin of SKKU commented on Fukuoka University, saying, “They are not a team centered on power and height, but one with excellent technique and game understanding. Their match management is composed and their fundamentals are very solid.” He added, “In short, they are a team that truly understands volleyball,” and noted that “if they further develop their physical size and power, they will become an even more formidable team.”

This training camp served as a meaningful platform for exchange, allowing both universities to share their training philosophies and systems while enhancing their competitiveness. While the teams engaged in intense competition on the court, they also built mutual respect and trust off the court, creating an opportunity to strengthen the foundation for the development of volleyball at both institutions.

Meanwhile, following this exchange, Fukuoka University is expected to continue achieving strong results in Japanese collegiate volleyball, while SKKU is anticipated to perform well in the U-League and various domestic competitions. The two universities also look forward to sustaining ongoing sports exchanges in the future.
