Sungkyunkwan University Selected as a 2025 “Excellence in Internationalization Capacity Certified University”
SKKU has been selected as an “Excellence in Internationalization Capacity Certified University” in the 2025 Internationalization Capacity Certification Evaluation announced by the Ministry of Education.
The Ministry of Education conducts an annual Internationalization Capacity Certification Evaluation for general universities, junior colleges, and graduate schools that enroll international students. In 2025, 181 universities in the degree program category and 123 institutions in the language training program category received certification. Among them, 39 universities with outstanding internationalization capacity were selected as “Excellence Certified Universities.” These include Sungkyunkwan University, Korea University, Ewha Womans University, and Hanyang University, among other leading institutions.
The Internationalization Capacity Certification is granted based on a comprehensive evaluation of the soundness of international student management, educational conditions, and the management of illegal stay rates. For degree programs, institutions must maintain an illegal stay rate below 1–2%, while for language training programs, the rate must remain below 8–12%, meeting stringent criteria. Certified universities receive benefits such as eased visa issuance screening for international students, preferential participation in overseas Study in Korea fairs, and additional points in the selection process for hosting Government Scholarship Program for International Students (GKS) recipients. In particular, Excellence Certified Universities are granted additional benefits beyond those provided to general certified institutions. The certification is valid for four years, and failure to meet the standards during annual reviews may result in revocation.
SKKU continues to enhance the qualitative level of internationalized education through a systematic international student management system and stable academic and living support frameworks.
