SKKU Ranks 87th Globally in the 2026 THE World University Rankings

– 2nd among Private Universities in Korea, 4th among All Korean Universities

Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) has once again proven its global competitiveness as a leading research-oriented institution by ranking 87th in the 2026 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings. Out of 2,191 universities worldwide, SKKU achieved a significant leap, rising 15 places from last year’s 2025 ranking. This accomplishment reflects the university’s strengthened educational and research capabilities as well as its commitment to continuous growth.

The university’s upward movement is attributed to improvements across all evaluation indicators, with a particularly notable increase in the quality of research. In recent years, SKKU has been implementing bold research innovations aimed at enhancing the qualitative impact of its international publications, based on the Field-Weighted Citation Impact (FWCI) index.

This achievement is supported by the university’s improved research environment, expanded international academic collaborations, and growth in joint research initiatives. Faculty members’ dedication to pursuing high-level research in their respective fields has also played a crucial role in this success. As a result, SKKU’s research excellence has been highly recognized in this year’s global evaluation.

In the Industry Collaboration category, SKKU ranked 64th worldwide, reflecting strong partnerships with leading corporations and recognition for its practical, industry-driven research capacity. The university’s strategic focus on strengthening industry-academia collaboration has garnered positive global attention.

Building on this achievement, SKKU continues to pursue innovation and sustainable growth to reach even greater heights. The university is also preparing to introduce a performance-based incentive system to further enhance its institutional outcomes.

President Yoo Ji-beom stated, “This remarkable achievement is the result of the university leadership’s full support and the active participation of all our members.” He added, “We will continue to foster an innovative educational and research environment to solidify SKKU’s position as a global leader.”
